Jay Rewerts
My name is Jay Tyler Rewerts and I'm a designer turned developer who is passionate about creating impactful, user-centered digital experiences through empathy and problem-solving. I am a curious person and a life long learner, always eager to learn from others. I currently reside in Tulsa, Oklahoma with my wonderful significant other and our ten pets who includes two Brussels Griffons named Bernadette (Bernie) and Olivia (Ollie) and several rescue kitties who are named Roosevelt, Lucy, Shooter McGavin, Gilbert, Poderick, Arya, Jack, and Margot.
After graduating from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, I joined the workforce, where I have been able to do both web and graphic design work for a university, a corporation, the government, and a private software company. It's been a wild ride of continuous learning and keeping up-to-date with the latest software and technologies.
My design journey first started in 2008 when an 18-year-old decided they wanted to attend Iowa State University and major in Computer Engineering. After a semester of barely making it, I went to speak to my college counselor and switched my major to Graphic Design. After that year, I decided to take a step back and attend Hawkeye Community College, where I continued to pursue design and finish all of the general education classes needed for Iowa State. Then, in 2011, I started the design program at Iowa State University, and I haven't looked back.
At the beginning of my design journey, the first collection of programs I purchased was Adobe Creative Suite 3! Learning Flash, Photoshop, and Illustrator were the driving catalysts for where I am career-wise today. I pride myself on staying current regarding the most popular programs and coding languages to keep my skills sharp, from Angular, Vue, React, and XAML to Video Editing, Cinema 4D, Figma, and the Adobe Cloud.
I have become a vehement supporter of enhancing the accessibility of the web and applications through an increased focus on adhering to accessibility standards and further education via webinars and online training. I have also gained a great passion for understanding the user's journey by researching the best UI/UX design practices, and I pride myself on upholding the principles of efficiency and ease-of-use while maintaining modern, eye-catching appeal in my designs.
